10:40:07 <afreak> when floating a tiled window, and then running sink on it to have it go back to be tiled, is there a module i could use that would sink it into its previously tiled position? atm it always sinks into the lowest position, even if it previously was master

13:28:39 <afreak> weird, my when i do Xmonad.Stackset.Sink, it goet in the bottom position
13:30:47 <afreak> its most annoying when i fullscreen browser, which i have in master position, then the ewmh fullscreenEventHook runs and floats it to fullscreen, and when i press escape, it runs sink on the window, which puts it at the bottom of the stack

13:31:54 <afreak> i just kinda forked that ewmh file and added `windows $ promote' . (W.sink win)`, so it goes in the master position, thats a lot better, but thats what you have by default? weird
13:33:21 <afreak> maybe some contrib-module i have enabled which does that

23:36:23 <aplainzetakind> I tried this: https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.16/docs/XMonad-Layout-IndependentScreens.html but the screens aren't quite independent. When I switch to a workspace on the other screen, it is swapped with the last workspace on the current one. Am I wrong to expect to be able to have the same workspace on both screens at the same time with this setup?

23:42:27 <fizzie> Yes, if by that you mean you could have the same windows on both screens. No, if you mean you could have the workspace with the same logical name on both screens.
23:43:51 <fizzie> IndependentScreens does not do much: it will just take a workspace list like ["a", "b", "c"] and (for two screens) convert it to a list like ["0_a", "0_b", "0_c", "1_a", "1_b", "1_c"], so that both screens (0, 1) can have their own "independent" sets of three workspaces.
23:44:56 <fizzie> Plus it provides functions to map between (screen number, logical workspace name) <-> physical workspace name, and some convenience utilities to make it easier to make things specific to one screen's set of workspaces.
23:45:21 <fizzie> If that's what you were expecting and it's not working, maybe you didn't replace the workspace-switching keybindings correctly.
23:45:39 <aplainzetakind> Maybe.
23:46:30 <aplainzetakind> I can't test well because I really don't have a second screen and I'm trying to setup a virtual monitor for screen sharing, but pretty sure things swap.
23:47:50 <aplainzetakind> https://dpaste.com/FFGEKC6QT
23:50:06 <fizzie> I'm not sure what "keyBindingskeys" there is.
23:50:50 <aplainzetakind> doh
23:51:00 <aplainzetakind> Cut paste blunder.
23:51:38 <aplainzetakind> Meant to be keyBindings <+> keys desktopConfig
23:51:44 <aplainzetakind> How did it compile?
23:53:36 <aplainzetakind> I guess it didn't, I resarted without recompiling.
23:58:16 <fizzie> I don't think that'd compile either, and in any case you'd really want that function to use the modMask from the config you're defining, not the one from desktopConfig. You can adapt that to an `additionalKeysP` list if you like, I seem to recall that's what I did when I was using IndependentScreens. I think the IndependentScreens docs have it like that because they're illustrating it against the default
23:58:22 <fizzie> XMonad.Config, possibly under the assumption that people would use that as a template rather than just overriding a few keys.
23:59:36 <aplainzetakind> It did compile.
23:59:51 <aplainzetakind> With parentheses.
