14:55:51 <admal> hi o/, i'm using xmonad on slackware. I can't get Teamviewer to work. I have search a lot on the internet and it seems to be related to something about the DE, or the sessions manager. I start slackware on runlevel 3, loggin with my user, and the run xinit (which runs xmonad).
14:57:07 <admal> if i run the teamviewer as root, i get an ID. if i'm not root, i don't get an ID. either way, beeing any user, teamviewer can't connect to the remote machine. it hangs in 'connecting' or something like that
14:59:07 <Solid> I remember having this issue before
14:59:20 <Solid> I think it's related to having a display manager or not
14:59:37 <Solid> for some reason, teamviewer doesn't work if you start things via startx :^)
14:59:53 <Solid> (my solution was to use a free software alternative, so no idea if there is a workaround)
15:00:00 <admal> what a shame
15:00:27 <admal> anydesk doesn't work either
15:08:18 <liskin> Solid: not too anal imo, just leave it for the final round of comments and possibly push that change yourself
15:09:17 <liskin> Joan had contributed before, it's time to learn to look at the diff

16:30:05 <mc47[m]> liskin what about pinning Solid's comment about the communication channels on the subreddit? I guess this is the second time people created their own communication channel for xmonad and posted about it on reddit

17:07:10 <liskin> I haven't been paying attention the last few hours though
17:08:32 <liskin> Anyway I might as well make Solid a mod there, he's way more active on the subreddit than me

18:14:07 <Solid> how are you plugging polybar into xmonad?
18:14:59 <Drishal[m]> <Solid "how are you plugging polybar int"> rn I am using xmobar
18:16:52 <Solid> lots of people are using dbus (and then something like xmonad-dbus) to communicate with polybar
18:17:21 <Solid> in which case you are still sending it everything via the PP abstraction, which includes the current layout
18:18:17 <Solid> alternatively you can also do things via pipes (although I don't think polybar can read from stdin, so you'd have to pipe things to a file and let polybar read it)

21:09:49 <geekosaur> I don't understand the question, quite.
21:10:33 <geekosaur> you should be running the git version of xmonad and xmonad-contrib, import XMonad.Util.Hacks, and add trayerAboveXmobarEventHook to your handleEventHook
21:11:24 <jg> I guess i am having trouble figuring out where to put the trayerAboveXmobarEventHook "hack" https://pastebin.com/aAcc8QzG

22:44:08 <jg> any advice for making steam chat and various pop ups float instead of tile?
22:44:59 <geekosaur> generally I just match specific windows in the manageHook; that's what it's for
22:45:44 <geekosaur> for dialogs that mark themselves as such there's the XMonad.Hooks.ManageHelpers.isDialog manageHook
22:46:00 <jg> as in the same name that is occupied for example the steam friends list would just be friends list?
22:46:50 <geekosaur> use xprop to determine the correct resource name and possibly WM_WINDOW_ROLE, rather than trying to match on window title; titles change

23:38:41 <geekosaur> hrm
23:38:50 geekosaur wonders if liftX is even usable these days
23:39:25 <jg> ooh whats that
23:39:35 <geekosaur> I have ancient commented-out code I tried to uncomment and it no longer compiles. and as best I can tell, it's impossible to use liftX in a manageHook any more because the types won't line up
23:40:00 <geekosaur> you'd have a Query () and need a Query (Endo WindowSet)
23:40:49 <geekosaur> this used to work because of how <+> and/or idHook were defined, but generalizing them lost that I think
23:42:37 <liskin> lots of managehook primitives are defined in terms of liftX, so liftX surely is usable in that context, somehow

23:52:41 <geekosaur> hm, maybe
23:52:50 <geekosaur> I kept getting type errors
23:53:02 <henninb> does spacingRaw and Border settings differ per Linux distro? I am seeing different behavior between gentoo and arch

23:56:04 <henninb> liskin I am pretty sure I am on on 0.15, but I will verify as that is a possiblity
