02:34:30 <KittyOwO[m]> Has there been any other attempts at something in wayland like xmonad apart from waymonad, just kinda curious because if it didn't look like a dead project I would be trying it out lol
02:37:35 <geekosaur> apparently someone forked it and did some work on it?
02:41:27 <geekosaur> https://github.com/L-as/waymonad
02:41:36 <geekosaur> last updated 5 days ago
02:42:02 <geekosaur> and has its own matrix room apparently
02:43:59 <KittyOwO[m]> oh sick
02:44:06 <KittyOwO[m]> the only one I looked at wasn't getting updated
02:47:52 <geekosaur> wonder if Ongy would be willing to give up the project to L-as
02:53:19 <KittyOwO[m]> <geekosaur "wonder if Ongy would be willing "> It made me think the project was entirely dead tbh lol, is there a link to the matrix? or is it on the website I am talking to too many people at once kafjhslddfsakjhl
02:54:21 <geekosaur> https://matrix.to/#/#waymonad:matrix.org taken from the github page for the project
02:54:58 <KittyOwO[m]> ah cool I missed that, thanks uwu
04:41:51 <aegon> sigh, why cant we all stay on irc.
04:42:12 <aegon> matrix is the least worrysome of the 3 at least (slack, discord, matrix)
04:45:47 × aegon quits (~mike@174.127.249.180) (Quit: leaving)
04:46:02 aegon joins (~mike@174.127.249.180)
04:47:07 <geekosaur> they're already on wayland, they can talk where they like :)
04:49:11 <aegon> can't tell if thats positive or negative :P maybe its time i get a matrix account
04:56:34 <KittyOwO[m]> Eh, I don't really like wayland for the cultish reasons some people do, I mostly just don't like to fight Xorg on weird things like screentearing or whatever sometimes lol, I know that type of thing usually has a fairly easy solution but eh lol worth a shot to try out.
04:57:24 <KittyOwO[m]> aegon: I don't really like matrix that much either, someone needs to make a good client for XMPP or one of the million toy project protocols, and one with a sane default package of extensions for the average user.
04:58:36 <geekosaur> https://xkcd.com/927/
04:59:09 <KittyOwO[m]> lol, that is a classic.
05:00:31 <KittyOwO[m]> Mostly why I have been mostly using Matrix, it just has people and is FOSS. I just wish that all these chat protocols didn't use the DNS system and that matrix would get taken in by the community rather than the sketchy weird ass devs who currently work with it.
05:01:07 <KittyOwO[m]> Or that XMPP would see actual use via people making actually good clients with good extensions by default lol
06:24:11 × abhixec quits (~abhixec@c-67-169-139-16.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) (Ping timeout: 255 seconds)

14:01:44 <diaspora[m]> Kitty OwO: A bazillion new Rust-based Matrix clients will be coming out once the matrix-rust-sdk project has enough features and reaches stability. You can follow their work at #matrix-rust-sdk:matrix.org if you want. Maybe one of the new clients will meet your needs. (Fractal-Next is one such client being developed.)
14:30:01 × slep quits (~slep@cpc150002-brnt4-2-0-cust437.4-2.cable.virginm.net) (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)

14:51:07 geekosaur joins (~geekosaur@xmonad/geekosaur)
15:35:50 <burp> psi is a pretty good XMPP messenger, in my opinion

16:21:44 abhixec joins (~abhixec@c-67-169-139-16.hsd1.ca.comcast.net)
18:07:45 <liskin> burp: it's not bad but it's no match for the configurabilty/scriptability of irc clients like irssi/weechat
18:08:32 <liskin> I wonder if we'll have a client like that for Matrix one day, or if that generation is already dead
18:16:52 davean joins (~davean@davean.sciesnet.net)
18:28:57 <fizzie> weechat's got a Matrix (Python) plugin, right? Saw that in a package list the other day.
18:32:28 <liskin> Yeah, it's shit.
18:33:16 <liskin> (I use it because what else am I meant to use, but it's really just crap and even for joining a channel I need to switch to Element.)
18:33:45 <liskin> It's only almost usable for sending messages in public channels, and that's about it.
18:56:59 <geekosaur> blargh. can't simply apply the keybind function because it wants the existentially wrapped version of the config
19:22:14 <geekosaur> oh, this sucks. doing this right requires added Read and Show instances
19:22:55 <geekosaur> they're actually present because the layouts wouldn't work otherwise, but I wonder if adding them will break anything else
19:41:24 <geekosaur> ok, PR force-pushed and should be good to go, at least it compiles here once I set up a compile env
19:47:12 × benin0369 quits (~benin@183.82.206.69) (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)

22:29:19 redgloboli joins (~redglobol@user/redgloboli)
22:31:47 <redgloboli> hi, i'm new to xmonad and cannot figure out why the slash is not working within xmonad keybindings. everything else works. i got the slash as key on my numpad on my logitech g512. if i hit the slash button in a terminal or browser i see the slash written down, but it doesnt work in combination as a shortcut. if i press it in a terminal in combination with the windows key i get s/ . showkey says keycode 98. any hint in the right direction would be
22:31:47 <redgloboli> nice :) thx.
22:35:40 <geekosaur> the way we do keybindings, I'm not sure we bind both of them. especially since keypads behave somewhat weirdly in X11
22:35:57 <geekosaur> does showkey show any modifiers?
22:38:28 <geekosaur> actually kP_Divide is different from / although terminals treat it the same. you would need a separate binding for it
22:39:28 <geekosaur> sorry xP_KP_Divide
22:39:37 <redgloboli> not in default mode. showkey -s show different results as it seems. showkey -a is also constantly printing the same.
22:39:45 <geekosaur> and might need to import Graphics.X11.Xlib.Types
22:41:36 <geekosaur> for example, I have both unbound here and emacs reports the one as "s-/" and the other as "s-kp-divide"
22:42:11 <fizzie> geekosaur: Still off by one: xK_KP_Divide.
22:42:34 <fizzie> (I cheated and checked the https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.16/docs/src/XMonad.Util.EZConfig.html#specialKeys list.)
22:42:37 <geekosaur> sorry. I shoulda looked it up first :)
22:42:56 <geekosaur> in any case you must separately bind it
22:44:51 <fizzie> https://0x0.st/-VgX.txt is what I get out of xev for / and the other /, and yeah, the keysyms seem different even though the translated strings are the same.
22:47:35 <redgloboli> ah nice, thank you very much, i needed the Graphics.X11.Xlib.Types import. works as expected :)
