07:05:13 cfricke joins (~cfricke@user/cfricke)
07:17:43 cjb joins (~cjb@user/cjb)
07:25:27 <Solid> how about we hold a contest whether to change the logo after 0.17? there were some cool designs last time this came up
07:25:58 <Solid> I reckon the publicity we get with the new release could attract some artists as well :)
08:10:53 mc47 joins (~mc47@xmonad/TheMC47)
08:11:02 <mc47> Solid I think that's brilliant

11:18:01 × deepy quits (deepy@user/deepy) (Quit: meow)
11:28:14 <vojjvoda[m]> I heard that it's better to install upstream version of xmonad instead of arch repo version. Is it true and what advantages are there?
11:34:33 <mc47> it's newer, and has many features and fixes that aren't released
11:34:38 <mc47> xmonad-contrib too
11:41:50 <Solid> I think especially xmonad-contrib is worth it (but then current contrib git doesn't compile with xmonad-0.15 so you need to upgrade both anyways :))
12:26:31 deepy joins (deepy@user/deepy)
14:45:02 × cfricke quits (~cfricke@user/cfricke) (Quit: WeeChat 3.2)

16:47:38 <liskin> Solid: yeah, why not
16:48:14 × deepy quits (deepy@user/deepy) (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
16:48:35 <liskin> vojjvoda[m]: yes, we definitely do recommend running the latest/greatest, there's little to be afraid of
16:49:35 <liskin> and I'd think aur might have packages for the git versions of X11/xmonad/xmonad-contrib so you don't even have to bother with stack/cabal probably
17:02:02 deepy joins (deepy@user/deepy)

18:54:18 <vojjvoda[m]> <liskin> "војвода: yes, we definitely do..." <- Okay I will try it then. Does it take long to compile?
18:56:24 <Solid> depends on your frame of reference :)
18:56:43 <Solid> actually, even then contrib is light on dependencies
18:56:54 <Solid> probably not much more than a couple of minutes
18:57:24 × geekosaur quits (~geekosaur@xmonad/geekosaur) (Remote host closed the connection)

19:36:44 <liskin> everything in Haskell takes long to compile! :-)
19:42:31 <vojjvoda[m]> Well it was quite fast, couple of minutes
19:45:11 <liskin> I guess you could compile the entire X server with all its input and video drivers several time in that timeframe ;-)
19:47:11 <Solid> (and with all of its unsafety :>)
19:48:31 <liskin> yeah
19:49:45 <liskin> (although the GHC type checker is much much faster than the code generation and optimization)
19:53:22 <Solid> true
19:55:15 <Solid> there has to be some drawback to writing mathematics and expecting it to be fast on von Neumann architecture :P
20:05:02 <burp> more worrisome are the memory requirements
20:12:17 × wonko quits (~wjc@62.115.229.50) (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)

23:22:43 <liskin> I just found out that TweetDeck exists and is an official tool by Twitter
23:22:54 cjb joins (~cjbayliss@user/cjb)
23:23:18 <liskin> which means @xmonad can be operated by multiple people without having to fight the multifactor auth system :-)
23:23:24 <geekosaur> just? I think it's been around for a decade or so
23:23:47 <liskin> yes, just
23:23:58 <liskin> remember, there's "social" in "social media"
23:24:10 <liskin> of course I don't know shit about it
23:24:11 <geekosaur> heh
23:24:21 <geekosaur> one would think I'd be even worse there
23:24:34 <geekosaur> \then again I bailed on twitter early for a reason
