09:08:14 <Solid> liskin: is haskell-ci-hackage.patch actually supposed to apply after running `haskell-ci regenerate`?
09:08:51 <Solid> because the latter doesn't generate workflows for all GHC versions for me (e.g. nothing for 9.2.1)
09:10:45 bfrk joins (~Thunderbi@i59F7ABAC.versanet.de)
09:11:54 <liskin> Solid: yes it's meant to be applied when you run that, but you need to use a recent enough version of haskell-ci to get all ghc versions
09:12:04 <Solid> oh I see
09:12:22 <liskin> (I'm on vacation till next Sunday so can't really help much except for toilet ircing)
09:12:55 <Solid> ah no worries
09:13:11 <Solid> once it runs I'll open a PR which you can review at your leisure (after your vacation is over!)

17:47:03 liskin[m] joins (~liskinmat@2001:470:69fc:105::768)
17:47:05 <geekosaur> yes
17:47:34 <jimr> are you familiar with the border patch for dmenu
17:48:06 <geekosaur> no, sorry
17:48:32 <jimr> im trying to reduce the thickness of the border i got it to make install with no issues..just doesnt change lol
17:48:37 <jimr> ok no worries
17:52:21 <geekosaur> looks like the patch uses the same border xmonad does, so you'll need to set/change the border within xmonad
17:52:33 <jimr> k
17:54:03 <jimr> no thats not it..
17:54:35 <jimr> i had the border in xmonad set..the border im trying whittle down is way thicker than 2 pixels lo
17:55:56 <geekosaur> hm, the patch I'm looking at uses the window's border_width
17:56:44 <jimr> the error i get is that border_width is defined but not used
17:58:13 <geekosaur> did you apply the whole patch? there are two hunks: one to config.def.h that defines the border width, and one to dmenu.c that uses it
18:01:40 <jimr> ok looking in dmenu.c now
18:09:40 <geekosaur> should be around line 657
18:09:51 <geekosaur> XCreateWindow
18:11:06 <geekosaur> if you see an 0 at the end of that line, change it to border_width
18:17:33 <jimr> you mean in the create menu window section?
18:17:44 <geekosaur> yes
18:18:02 <geekosaur> win = XCreateWindow(dpy, parentwin, x, y, mw, mh, border_width,
18:18:20 <geekosaur> unpatched will have 0 in place of border_width
18:18:36 <jimr> yep...no numbrs
18:19:09 <jimr> looking up something at the moment
18:19:24 <geekosaur> and I missed that the window has the override_redirect flag set, so xmonad can't affect it

18:45:22 <jimr> ok
18:45:36 <jimr> think ill have to email the author of the patch
18:45:54 <geekosaur> do you have any other patches applied?
18:46:14 <jimr> morecolor center and highlight
18:46:27 <geekosaur> I could imagine one that added another source file reporting that warning (then -Werror) if it's not used in that file
18:46:38 <geekosaur> but those don't sound like they should add files
18:47:21 <geekosaur> flip side, make sure what you are seeing is actually an error and not simply a warning
18:47:34 <jimr> yea i got make install to run with no errors..just not changing
18:47:55 <geekosaur> make sure you don;t have a different dmenu somewhere else
18:48:22 × Czernobog quits (~Czernobog@user/czernobog) (Quit: ZNC 1.8.2 - https://znc.in)
18:48:30 <geekosaur> if you initially installed it from an OS repo then it'll be in /usr/bin/dmenu, but by default make install usually gores to /usr/local/bin
18:48:37 <geekosaur> *goes
18:49:46 <geekosaur> (also OS package managers dislike it when something else writes over what they installed)
18:50:09 <jimr> k i originally installed it via pacman
18:50:21 <jimr> then i downloaded the source code from suckless
18:52:07 <geekosaur> find $(IFS=': '; echo $PATH) -name dmenu
18:52:39 × mvk quits (~mvk@2607:fea8:5cc3:7e00::45ee) (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
18:53:33 <jimr> yea user/bin/dmenu and usr/local/bin/dmenu
18:53:58 <geekosaur> ok, so remove the one installed via pacman since you're using your own install now
18:54:27 <jimr> k sudo pacman -Rns dmenu right?

19:02:58 <geekosaur> I don't know Arch; I'm on ubuntu which uses apt
19:03:54 <geekosaur> main problem likely to happen is now xmonad can't find dmenu becuase X121 startup doesn't use your PATH setting but is hardcoded to /bin:/usr/bin. you'll need a wrapper or an extra setting in main to work around that, if it happens
19:04:13 <jimr> k
19:05:38 <geekosaur> also you shouldn't need to restart your session for most of this
19:05:59 <geekosaur> even if we need to add a PATH setting to main, mod-q should be enoough
19:08:05 <jimr> for once its make install with no errors or warnings...
19:08:42 <geekosaur> shouldn't need to repeat that either, I'd think
19:09:05 <geekosaur> it's already installed, you've just not been running the installed one but the one from the package manager
19:13:23 <geekosaur> if it's now coming up as "not installed" then you need to fix your $PATH
19:19:43 jao joins (~jao@cpc103048-sgyl39-2-0-cust502.18-2.cable.virginm.net)
19:21:04 <jimr> yes finally got it..
19:22:33 <jimr> done something i should have done earlier...looked at the dmenu-border4.9.diff and it told me what to replace..
19:23:21 <jimr> helps if you look at the patch file lol
19:25:15 <jimr> thanks for the help
19:25:28 <geekosaur> np
19:25:33 <jimr> i didnt even think of deleting the on from pacman
19:26:28 <MrElendig> I would make my own pacman package instead of sudo make install
19:26:42 <MrElendig> the later will break in all kinds of fun ways
19:27:47 <jimr> im still relatively a noob when it comes to linux...sometimes going into configs scare me a little...but i do read up..and really only ask for help if i cant get it
19:28:50 <MrElendig> adding a patch to a PKGBUILD is much easier than building by hand
19:29:09 <jimr> k
19:29:33 <MrElendig> also avoid the whole problem of you not remembering how/what you did in 3 months when you have to rebuild it
19:29:46 <jimr> lol
19:30:01 <jimr> yea going to back up my .config files...
19:30:29 <jimr> and write down what i did where i did it and why i did it
