04:34:46 <yuu[m]> <Guest82> "for some reason it is pulling .1..." <- Guest82: my xmonad config... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/2e43d49450b15326b3efc87a2748dc92b45885e5)
04:36:28 <yuu[m]> if you're on .15 i suppose that's because the channel isn't on an updated revision or you're using something else than unstable.
04:37:00 <yuu[m]> besides you need to rebuild to get the new version after updating
04:39:16 <yuu[m]> <[Leary]> "You don't need the extraPackages..." <- unless they've updated it recently, you need that if you want that so that your ide recognize the modules and so on without needing to create a direnv
04:41:40 <yuu[m]> <Guest82> "[Leary] do you by chance have..." <- https://github.com/yuuyins/cnix and has flakes. but the xmonad config is a bit wrong, so use the one i gave above

14:00:04 <liskin> [Leary]: great to have you back! Where have you been the last couple years? :-)
14:10:56 FatBoyXPC joins (~FatBoyXPC@user/fatboyxpc)
14:25:14 <[Leary]> liskin: Thanks! I haven't really been anywhere as such, but for various reasons I was reduced to booting puppy linux off a flash drive in an ancient laptop with no HDD...
14:26:14 × berberman quits (~berberman@user/berberman) (Quit: ZNC 1.8.2 - https://znc.in)
14:26:18 <[Leary]> I wasn't using xmonad or nix, so I didn't end up getting back on irc or looking over the (thousands of) github notifications.

14:28:22 <[Leary]> I even got stubborn about writing a couple of projects on GHC 8.0 and cabal 1.27 for no good reason. >.>
14:28:57 <[Leary]> But one of them got held up by the lack of QuantifiedConstraints.
15:04:27 <Solid> indeed, I was pleasantly surprised to have a familiar name pop up in my email :)
15:04:55 <Solid> just as mc47 is reviving that modal keybindings gist as well
15:05:07 <Solid> ( https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad-contrib/pull/703 )
15:07:58 <geekosaur> sounds like your life has been almost as "fun" as mine the past few years
15:12:38 <[Leary]> "Fun" indeed.
15:13:40 <[Leary]> Re the modal keybindings, I'll leave that in their presumed capable hands. Most things I wrote for xmonad were for my own use, but that one was completely on a whim---one of the reasons it never made it to PR.
15:15:07 <Solid> yeah it should be fine
15:15:13 <Solid> just wanted to make you aware of it

20:52:15 Xioulious joins (~yourname@193.32.249.137)
21:08:21 <Xioulious> is it somehow possible with the coreTemp xmobar plugin to see the cpu package temp instead of a single core temp?
21:08:35 liskin[m] joins (~liskinmat@2001:470:69fc:105::768)
21:16:19 td_ joins (~td@94.134.91.204)
21:40:31 × mvk quits (~mvk@2607:fea8:5ce3:8500::c90f) (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
22:04:03 <MrElendig> Xioulious: does the coretemp driver on your hardware actually give you a package temp?
22:05:26 <Xioulious> not sure how to check that, i know that when i use sensors i get a package id 0 which shows the package temp, so i've got that in a bash file and just printing only that value by using sensor
22:06:22 <MrElendig> `sensors` is a start, or check /sys
22:07:54 <Xioulious> the coretemp-isa-0000 (which is what sensors lists for my cpu) lists the package id with its temperature and then each core seperately
22:07:58 <liskin> I just checked the source of CoreTemp and it looks like it's a bit broken actually
22:08:29 <liskin> it seems it tries to parse the core id out of the hwmon/hwmon*/temp*_label files
22:08:58 <liskin> but temp1_label is "Package id 0", so <core0> ends up showing the package temp on my laptop
22:09:15 <liskin> (which happens to be what I want, but it's probably not what the CoreTemp author intended)
22:09:42 <geekosaur> I was wondering about that after poking at the hwmon stuff
22:10:54 <MrElendig> which temp* coresponds to what varies quite a bit depending on the hardware and driver version
22:11:11 <Xioulious> hmm you do seem to be right about that, coretemp updates a bit slower than the bash file, but when it does update the temps are the same
22:11:22 <MrElendig> not unlikely to be a "works on my machine" thing
22:11:45 <liskin> MrElendig: true.dat :-)
22:12:51 <Xioulious> set the update time to be the same, and yeah values of core0 and my packageid are the same
22:44:49 × Xioulious quits (~yourname@193.32.249.137) (Quit: leaving)
23:31:46 × chomwitt quits (~chomwitt@94.66.63.97) (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
