12:57:19 <geekosaur> woohoo
12:59:37 <Solid> CI still building, so no celebrating yet :P
13:00:11 <geekosaur> well, we don't even appear to have a tag yet
13:00:58 <geekosaur> not that that will show except for the versions on commits changing; the bot assumes releases are branches, not tags
13:01:30 <geekosaur> since that's how it works where I got the bot from (I don't think we have quite enough activity to justify it)
13:02:07 <Solid> creating a tag comes only after everything else is done, I think
13:02:12 <Solid> at least that what we did for 0.17.0
13:02:30 <geekosaur> right
13:03:10 <Solid> much easier to push to master instaed of trying to amend the tag in case hackage doens't want to build docs or something
13:10:28 wonko_ joins (~wjc@2a0e:1c80:2::130)
13:16:37 <Solid> geekosaur: does this look about right to you: https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad-web/pull/67/files
13:16:50 <Solid> (if you have time)
13:21:24 bsima- is now known as bsima
13:23:31 × wonko_ quits (~wjc@2a0e:1c80:2::130) (Ping timeout: 244 seconds)
13:25:36 <geekosaur> I've been watching the commits, it seems okay to me
13:27:17 <geekosaur> hm, actually I'm just seeing the whole thing together for the first time
13:29:38 <geekosaur> one "oops"
13:35:25 <quarkQuark[m]111> Exciting! Is there any reason in particular why we still use 0.x? I wouldn't call XMonad alpha-quality.
13:35:50 <Solid> Probably just tradition, at this point
13:37:19 <geekosaur> dcss (https://github.com/crawl/crawl) has been around for over a decade and is still using 0.x releases
13:37:26 <geekosaur> 0.29 just released
13:38:14 thyriaen_ joins (~thyriaen@93.83.55.34)
13:40:51 × thyriaen quits (~thyriaen@dynamic-089-204-138-080.89.204.138.pool.telefonica.de) (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
13:41:01 <Solid> hackage seems fine ( https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-0.17.1/candidate https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.17.1/candidate )
14:00:36 <Solid> okay, nothing has exploded so I'll merge the news post and prepare the GitHub releases I suppose
14:01:06 <Solid> one thing I've noticed is that I don't have Hackage access to xmonad-extras and there is no CI action to upload a candidate, so someone else will have to do it at some point (non-critical though)
14:02:46 <geekosaur[m]> I don't even have a Hackage account 😟
14:02:51 <Solid> :D
14:08:56 × Harper_breey[m] quits (~barron00m@2001:470:69fc:105::2:73a6) (Quit: User was banned)
14:14:34 <Solid> well, that seems to have worked \o/
14:29:04 <Solid> all that should be left is i) twitter ( liskin ) and ii) xmonad-extras ( liskin as well, I suppose? Don't know whether anyone else is active and has Hackage access )
14:46:48 <xmonadtrack> New branch created: pull/419 (1 commit) https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad/pull/419
14:46:48 <xmonadtrack> xmonad ernestkz https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad/pull/419 * v0.17.1-1-g0f31b24: CHANGES.md: Fix date. (9 minutes ago, 1 file, 1+ 1-) https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad/commit/0f31b24bd276
14:48:42 <liskin> I am now. I'll check whether I have hackage access to extras in a bit but I highly doubt it
14:49:41 <liskin> That one's always been psibi's and has none of the CI bits like the other projects so I wouldn't be comfortable touching it anyway :-)
14:49:56 <Solid> okay, we'll have to ping psibi then
14:51:50 <xmonadtrack> xmonad ernestkz * v0.17.1-1-g0f31b24: CHANGES.md: Fix date. (14 minutes ago, 1 file, 1+ 1-) https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad/commit/0f31b24bd276

14:52:19 <Solid> Don't know if this is Murphi's law already
15:00:18 <geekosaur> I had the same thought
15:02:31 × logzet quits (~quassel@2001:9e8:e521:7000:dabb:c1ff:fed3:a1b9) (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
15:04:10 <geekosaur> also I had wondered if we needed psibi for some of this
15:04:32 <liskin> imagine the number of mistakes you'd make if none of the procedure was automated :-P
15:04:55 <Solid> A release would take me like two days in that case :D
15:05:06 <liskin> you'd actually need to start releasing every month to have any chance of doing this flawlessly :-))
15:05:16 <liskin> (eventually)
15:05:24 <Solid> hah
15:05:46 <liskin> anyway, I do have hackage access for xmonad-extras
15:21:58 <xmonadtrack> xmonad Tomas Janousek * v0.17.1-3-gb771abe: Bump version to 0.17.1.9 and prepare CHANGES.md sections (5 seconds ago, 2 files, 9+ 1-) https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad/commit/b771abeadc83
15:26:59 <xmonadtrack> xmonad-contrib Tomas Janousek * v0.17.1-2-gd0d222e9: Bump version to 0.17.1.9 and prepare CHANGES.md sections (2 minutes ago, 2 files, 8+ 1-) https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad-contrib/commit/d0d222e9745b
15:27:28 <liskin> Solid: are you a user of xmonad-extras yourself? shall I just add you to its hackage maintainers?
15:27:49 <liskin> the only time I ever touched that codebase was when I played around with GHC 9.2 compat some time ago
15:27:52 <liskin> never actually ran it
15:28:25 <Solid> liskin: no I've never used it tbh, psibi just asked me to release a new version alongside xmonad
15:28:44 <liskin> oh, we're in the same boat then :-/
15:29:03 <Solid> but as a Hackage maintainer at least I could do a release next time :)
15:29:29 <liskin> wonder what's the best path forward then
15:32:13 <liskin> if psibi's busy and I'm busy and neither me nor you nor geekosaur use it, we don't really have anyone who can do a release and know what they're doing
15:32:41 <liskin> might be worth setting up CI like we did for X11-xft and everything
15:32:53 <liskin> that way at least we won't make silly mistakes
15:33:11 <Solid> yeah probably
15:35:43 <liskin> well, I can take a laptop to pub later today and see what I manage
15:35:58 <liskin> but please don't be disappointed when nothing happens :-)

15:46:14 <geekosaur> also added extras, since we're discussing it 🙂
15:46:49 <geekosaur> (mm, 5 weeks ago. do we need to release that too?)
15:47:54 <liskin> we don't _need_ to release X11 but there's no good reason not to
15:48:18 <liskin> (and no reason to rush it either)
15:48:38 <geekosaur> how about X11-xft since there's a note that you need to be running a particular version for one of the contrib changes? (may already have been released, I haven't been tracking)
15:48:41 <liskin> anyway I'll go offline for a bit again but I'll be around later
15:48:44 <geekosaur> ok
15:48:45 <sibi> I use some modules of xmonad-extras.
15:49:08 <sibi> And I can release it as part of xmonad. Just ping me when you want me to release it. Alternatively I can add others to the hackage manintainers list.
15:49:16 <sibi> Also I do think it already has some CI setup.
15:49:18 <liskin> geekosaur: X11-xft doesn't need a release, there've just been CI updates since the last tag
15:50:03 <sibi> But I guess it needs some bumping of lts versions.
15:50:38 <liskin> sibi: it does have a primitive stack-based CI but it's a bit outdated and less robust than what we have for the other projects
15:52:05 <sibi> Ah, I see. I agree, it could use some improvements. My xmonad configuration usually sticks to latest lts.
