07:30:03 <mc47> I probably asked this before, but: liskin, Solid: I'm deciding whether or not I'll attend zurihac (or maybe try my luck with the GHC workshop), did you guys decide?

08:55:11 <liskin> mc47: I still haven't decided :-(
08:56:26 <liskin> been flying around a lot lately so somewhat likely to skip it :-/

09:12:09 unclechu joins (~unclechu@2001:470:69fc:105::354)
09:12:11 <geekosaur> liskin and I discussed that a few days ago
09:16:54 <mc47> I saw that, but I didn't receive any email
09:16:57 <mc47> let me check again quickly
09:17:37 <geekosaur> I don't know if it sends email, although IMO it should
09:28:33 × pharonix71 quits (~pharonix7@user/pharonix71) (Remote host closed the connection)

10:39:09 <mc47> I can see I'm an admin now
10:55:55 × mc47 quits (~mc47@xmonad/TheMC47) (Remote host closed the connection)
11:17:55 <liskin> you may need to set up 2FA to approve expenses, I vaguely remember toggling something like that somewhere
11:18:09 <liskin> (wouldn't be at all surprised if untoggling it didn't require 2FA though… :-))
12:56:18 × cfricke quits (~cfricke@user/cfricke) (Quit: WeeChat 3.8)
13:24:38 hightower2 joins (~hightower@34-89.dsl.iskon.hr)

15:52:04 mc47 joins (~mc47@xmonad/TheMC47)
15:53:19 <mc47> Is there a reason boring windows are implemented as a layou?
15:53:29 <mc47> I find that not intuitive
15:53:51 <geekosaur> because they're old and there are better ways now?
16:00:11 × unclechu quits (~unclechu@2001:470:69fc:105::354) (Quit: You have been kicked for being idle)
16:00:11 × liskin[m] quits (~liskinmat@2001:470:69fc:105::768) (Quit: You have been kicked for being idle)

16:14:08 unclechu joins (~unclechu@2001:470:69fc:105::354)
16:14:53 <geekosaur> same goes for the layout-based workspace show-er
16:15:27 <geekosaur> which IIRC Solid reimplemented
16:15:41 <geekosaur> (ShowWName)
16:18:55 × Guest33 quits (~Guest33@93.185.58.78) (Quit: Client closed)
16:30:33 <geekosaur> more precisely, it needed to store state on the currently boring windows, and back then the only way to retain it was inside a layout constructor
16:30:38 <geekosaur> these days we have XS
16:44:21 <mc47> makes sense, thanks for the implementation
16:44:29 <mc47> s/implementation/explanation/
17:47:01 × hightower2 quits (~hightower@34-89.dsl.iskon.hr) (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
17:53:14 × mc47 quits (~mc47@xmonad/TheMC47) (Remote host closed the connection)
18:08:57 catern88 joins (~catern@38.105.200.49)
18:09:00 catern88 is now known as catern_
18:09:55 <catern_> is there a good way to detect if I'm running under xmonad? it doesn't set _NET_SUPPORTING_WM_CHECK by default which is somewhat sad
18:11:23 <geekosaur> not if you aren't using EwmhDesktops
18:11:34 <catern_> (I'm trying to fix an Emacs bug https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=62164 which makes an emacs feature behave poorly under tiling window managers, but one of the maintainers doesn't want my fix on at all times because he thinks some WMs will behave badly if my fix is present, so I'm thinking I can detect xmonad somehow and turn it on
18:11:34 <catern_> then)
18:11:48 <catern_> (and also detect other tiling wms of course)
18:43:03 hightower2 joins (~hightower@85.94.71.188)
18:54:03 × catern_ quits (~catern@38.105.200.49) (Quit: Client closed)
19:04:20 <Solid> Po Lu seems open to making this configurable, just not the default (this seems to be a thing with Emacs)
19:06:32 <Solid> I do question the choice of heeding to broken window managers, but I guess it may be better to err on the side of caution sometimes
19:08:09 <geekosaur> some would claim we're broken because we're not EWMH out of the box
19:11:57 <geekosaur> besides which, some would argue emacs is broken because it doesn't play well with window managers in general
19:13:13 <geekosaur> hm, actually I wonder if you can get away with borrowing the Java hack
19:15:16 <geekosaur> check the environment for _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1
