09:00:28 <liskin> Solid: last time I checked even the GUI ones didn't manage to keep up with Matrix features
09:00:44 <liskin> features like spaces
09:02:08 <liskin> perhaps worth another look, but then, there really is little motivation to do this. I'm just annoyed that when I open Matrix once in a few weeks it's ugly as shit
09:02:31 <liskin> I want to see what, if any, new messages are there, not have to worry about someone choosing a font that renders poorly :-(

11:59:29 <Guest37> hey everyone... really struggling here with the xmonad install... Im on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS; followed the docs on https://xmonad.org/INSTALL.html using the git clone > caball install route. Running xmonad --recompile is succesful but running xmonad from an xsession does a flicker to a black screen and returns me to me to the default ubuntu gnome
11:59:30 <Guest37> desktop.

16:10:06 <Solid> liskin: I see :/
16:10:56 <liskin> Maybe I should just get a client on my phone
16:11:34 <liskin> That one has big enough dpi that it really takes a complete fuckwit to mess up the font rendering
16:11:53 <liskin> (so yeah as you'd expect Twitter managed to do just that a while ago)
16:12:59 <liskin> But then a Matrix client wouldn't use Android/Google's notification apis and would just open a TCP connection and waste battery. There's a bunch of issue reports about this in their repo.
16:13:18 <liskin> It's just a complete cluster fuck this Matrix thing :-D
16:13:52 <Solid> uff
16:33:51 × chomwitt quits (~chomwitt@ppp-94-67-233-145.home.otenet.gr) (Remote host closed the connection)
16:44:29 <liskin> I don't even know why I worry about this. The bridge works. Kudos to geekosaur (I presume).
16:44:44 <geekosaur> yes
16:45:22 <geekosaur> it's got some glitches, there seems for example to be no way to stop it from duplicating messages in the case of matrix edits
16:45:52 <geekosaur> I filed a feature request upstream about that one, since there is support for suppressing edits in some non-IRC backends
16:46:04 <geekosaur> but my attempts to duplicate the code failed
16:46:28 <geekosaur> (aside: I officially dislike golang)
16:52:26 <geekosaur> as to matrix, I mostly use nheko and briefly pop into element when I need to do something not supported
16:52:29 <geekosaur> which is rare
16:52:46 <geekosaur> nheko does support spaces, at least to some extent
16:53:05 <geekosaur> I haven't looked at alternative clients for android yet
