02:50:09 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> Kicker patch doesn't work on debian 13 either. I just tested on debian 13.

04:25:02 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I'm using Kubuntu 22.04 plus Xmonad as my WM. When I do winkey+p, to start the xmonad program launcher dmenu, when I then input firefox, it doesn't auto complete it. It used to. Firefox is in my path. So is waterfox and thunderbird, but they are no longer auto completing in dmenu. If I type the full binary name myself in dmenu, it launches the program, but no auto completion. What can I do?
04:25:40 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> "dmenu_path|grep firefox" I run this and firefox doesn't show up
04:36:31 <geekosaur> is it in your terminal path, or the system path
04:37:01 <geekosaur> ubuntu does *not* read your dotfiles to set $PATH, so its path will be /bin:/usr/bin
04:37:51 <geekosaur> https://github.com/geekosaur/xmonad.hs/blob/hilfy-2023/10profile
04:38:24 <geekosaur> drop something like that in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10profile
04:39:31 <geekosaur> (you probably don't want the GDK_SCALE part; that's because I have QHD monitors and gtk stuff doesn't autodetect the scaling it needs to do)
04:48:37 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> Now I have another problem too. winkey+p used to run dmenu_run, now it brings up KDE switch screen menu
04:49:28 <geekosaur> that one's harder, you have to find out where that's bound in KDE and rebind or remove the binding
04:49:57 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I tried to install debian, shared my home, it didn't work out, so I rebooted back into ubuntu and now these problems have started
04:50:14 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I think something got messed up by debian in my ~?
04:51:20 <geekosaur> yeh, that's usually a good way to mess things up because switching between different versions of programs will generally screw up their config files
04:51:50 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> glady I have everything from ~ backed up on a ZFS mirror. What do I need to restore, do you think?
04:52:01 <geekosaur> (or be screwed up by them, which might be why "didn't work out")
04:52:42 <geekosaur> tbh I'd restore the whole thing; desktop environments have too many interconnected parts, and if it's a dconf setting you'd need to restore the whole db anyway
04:55:09 <geekosaur> minimum will be .config and .local
05:28:34 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> Whew! Everything restored and working once again. I am going to stop messing around and after 3 days, I can't find a way off of 22.04 Kubuntu, so that's where I'm staying. I learned my lesson.

14:35:23 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I'm on 24.04 now with multiple reboots and nvidia/wifi works. Now I just need to figure out how to make KDE load xmonad like it did in 22.04. I can't remember how I did that.
16:21:21 <geekosaur> have you checked the xmonad wiki? pretty sure we have instructions for integration with KDE
16:24:41 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I got it. Thanks

19:20:38 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> On 24.04 kubuntu, meta + 1 2 3 etc. don't switch workspaces anymore.
19:21:03 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> meta + f1 and f2 switch monitor focus just fine

19:31:38 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I rebooted into 22.04 and it switches workspaces just fine. Problem is somewhere in 24.04 KDE

22:51:26 <geekosaur> probably grabbed those keys for something else, as before
23:18:22 <haskellbridge> <Nexilva> I restored everything from backup like .config and .local etc. and keys still don't work in 24.04. I think KDE in 24.04 eats the meta key as I see a lot of default shortcuts for it.
23:22:43 <geekosaur> quite possible
23:23:15 <geekosaur> you'll note in the MATE configuration on the wiki I give instructions to stop it from eating meta
