2022-01-18 20:15:01 <mon_aaraj> Solid: yeah, but I would like to put my entire configuration into kmonad if possible, it helps in making it easy to port to other computers
2022-01-18 20:15:07 <mon_aaraj> but thank you very much for the tip
2022-01-18 20:15:57 <Solid> mon_aaraj: well, xset will always be installed on machines running X11 (it's much more "portable" than kmonad in that sense)
2022-01-18 20:16:08 <Solid> also, your uinput-sink can take a second argument
2022-01-18 20:16:17 <Solid> which will be executed by a shell after kmonad starts
2022-01-18 20:16:38 <Solid> e.g. you could write something like (uinput-sink "NAME" "sleep 0.2s; xset r rate 230 70;")

2022-01-18 21:49:01 <Tisoxin> fnstudio: afaik you could also use a small guile script to get the path…
2022-01-18 21:49:33 <Tisoxin> though you shouldn't ask me, what exactly is needed, since i don't use guix anymore

2022-01-20 03:23:11 <ryanprior[m]> Is it possible in your defcfg to specify that it should apply to all keyboard inputs, so you don't have to provide a path to a specific input device?
2022-01-20 03:24:12 <ryanprior[m]> I have it working with my keyboard, but I want to make an easy-to-distribute config that other people can use unmodified (ideally; I might also be able to ship it with a script that selects an input device on install, but that seems messy?)
2022-01-20 04:07:30 RawFiend joins (~rawfiend@31.155.242.167)
2022-01-20 05:13:33 <kraM> Perhaps an udev rule that creates a pointer to any keyboard device and use that in the kmonad configuration. Dunno.
2022-01-20 05:43:48 × RawFiend quits (~rawfiend@31.155.242.167) (Remote host closed the connection)

2022-01-20 07:01:22 <Solid> ryanprior[m]: kmonad is pretty fixed on reading from a single keyboard and creating a single virtual keyboard
2022-01-20 07:01:38 <Solid> though I guess shell scripting can help you out here

2022-01-21 13:23:02 dnzm joins (~dnzm@2001:470:69fc:105::97e)
2022-01-21 13:36:47 <dnzm> Heya folks, I'm toying around with Kmonad under Linux to try and recreate something an Apple keyboard did right: map CMD+arrow keys to the home/end/pgup/pgdn cluster. I'm adding a layer ("super"), adding an alias ("sup") to toggle that layer, and in deflayer I've mapped that alias to my `lmet` key.
2022-01-21 13:37:31 <sshine> awesome. I just idle here in the hope that I'll get around to doing exactly that. :)
2022-01-21 13:37:42 <dnzm> this works, in that it allows me to cmd+↓ to scroll down in a window, so yay. However, it now eats all the "regular" SUPER+... mappings I had in X11, which is less than ideal
2022-01-21 13:38:31 <dnzm> oh
2022-01-21 13:38:33 <dnzm> oh, I may have just figured out what I was doing wrong
2022-01-21 13:39:46 <dnzm> ...well, not quite. See, I had `-` in my layers in stead of `_` (so hyphens rather than underscores), which is silly. Fixed that now.
2022-01-21 13:40:33 <dnzm> Still no dice on getting the "old" combo's to work, though.
2022-01-21 13:42:01 <dnzm> which somewhat makes sense, come to think of it - I use lmet to switch to a layer, and press a key, which gets passed along just fine, just minus the lmet key since that's already "consumed" by switching to that layer, probably
2022-01-21 13:44:40 <dnzm> so what I want appears to be a combination of a layer and `around-next`, perhaps. Not sure if / how I can combine those two, so if anyone can weigh in on that...
2022-01-21 14:14:18 <dnzm> oh, I was also halted at first by using a pre-cooked binary from the github releases, that didn't work either way, threw errors on the tutorial file as well
2022-01-21 14:14:37 <dnzm> freshly building (through a container) did yield a working binary
2022-01-21 14:16:40 <Solid> you would probably need to check out the tutorial with the corresponding tagged release
2022-01-21 14:20:08 <dnzm> ah, that's one mystery solved then
2022-01-21 14:20:53 <dnzm> it tripped over the `cmp-seq ralt` line, which wasn't in the release-version tutorial file, OK.
2022-01-21 14:23:06 <dnzm> that leaves the matter of using one source key for several purposes, is such a thing possible?
2022-01-21 20:00:32 form_feed joins (~form_feed@nixon.einval.eu)
2022-01-21 22:21:00 <dnzm> Hm, from perusing the tutorial again, I think what I want to do is quite... well, not so *difficult* as such, just a lot of work. I want a key on the input keyboard (the Cmd/Win/Super, whatever you want to call it) to be able to do several things:... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/2987eafe8bd5e393452e999782080a55ddfb1a26)
2022-01-21 22:21:35 <dnzm> I think especially the last part is going to trip me up in having to configure layers or aliases (or both?) for every combo, which gets unwieldy
