| 2021-02-19 21:19:17 | <_jak> | Hey y'all! I have a (hopefully) easy to fix problem: I'm using polybar as my statusbar, and I have a keyboard shortcut to toggle struts. This mostly works as expected, except that sometimes, instead of toggling, the statusbar remains "on top", so the top content of the window is hidden by the statusbar, and this persists until I make a new window on that workspace, at which point it works as expected. |
| 2021-02-19 21:19:27 | <_jak> | I'm not really sure what's happening here (it seems like polybar is getting moved down the window stack?), but any directions to investigate would be helpful! |
| 2021-02-19 21:19:39 | <_jak> | Here's a picture of what I mean: https://imgur.com/a/gUYVTEX |
| 2021-02-19 21:19:47 | <_jak> | Here's a link to the relevant section of my config: https://pastebin.com/4FUG4ipV |
| 2021-02-19 21:23:17 | <geekosaur> | xmonad won't be touching any dock's z-order because it doIgnore-s them. and EWMH says it's up to the dock to maintain its z-order |
| 2021-02-19 21:25:26 | <_jak> | geekosaur: Ah, I see -- so, given that polybar doesn't do anything to maintain its z-order, this is a dead end pretty much? |
| 2021-02-19 21:25:38 | <geekosaur> | more or less |
| 2021-02-19 21:25:59 | <_jak> | bummer |
| 2021-02-19 21:26:04 | <_jak> | thanks for your help though! |
| 2021-02-19 21:26:16 | <geekosaur> | I've in the distant past hacked up my config to XLowerWindow, but it's a nasty hack |
| 2021-02-19 21:26:51 | <Liskni_si> | is it really nasty though? |
| 2021-02-19 21:27:08 | Liskni_si | has "checkDock --> doLower" in his manageHook too |
| 2021-02-19 21:30:03 | <geekosaur> | mine was, but it was more of a click-on-even-an-iunmanaged-window-to-lower-it thing |
| 2021-02-19 21:30:14 | <geekosaur> | manageHook is more principled |
| 2021-02-19 21:30:17 | <Liskni_si> | oh |

| 2021-02-20 08:12:23 | <sheepfleece> | Good day! I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, but sometimes when I move between two visible workspaces (on different screens) xmonad doesn't swap them and only changes focus to the other screen. I'm not sure when it started happenning, but what might be the problem, why does xmonad sometimes only change focus and not swap workspaces? |
| 2021-02-20 08:16:43 | <Solid> | If you're moving between screens with M-{w,e,r} you should not see any workspace swapping at all |
| 2021-02-20 08:17:56 | <sheepfleece> | I'm moving with M-{1..} |
| 2021-02-20 08:18:59 | <sheepfleece> | No, to be precise I'm moving with M-{;,'}, but I mapped them with greedyView |
| 2021-02-20 08:19:46 | <Solid> | Well that's certainly odd |
| 2021-02-20 08:19:48 | <sheepfleece> | What's even more strange is that now it doesn't work with M-{;,'} workspaces but does work with M-{n,m,[,],\} |
| 2021-02-20 08:21:27 | <Solid> | Are you able to reliably reproduce this? |
| 2021-02-20 08:22:26 | <sheepfleece> | Right now, yes. But I'm not sure how exactly it didn't work before |
| 2021-02-20 08:24:27 | <sheepfleece> | here is an exert from my config, https://paste.debian.net/1186190/ |

| 2021-02-20 09:00:29 | <sheepfleece> | Okay, I can reproduce it, the config I showed was a bit of a lie, because some time ago I also had this line in it. https://paste.debian.net/1186193/ |
| 2021-02-20 09:00:42 | <sheepfleece> | So there were two ways to switching to those two workspaces |
| 2021-02-20 09:01:18 | <sheepfleece> | I returned it again, and voila, it does this strange thing again |
| 2021-02-20 09:10:41 | <mc47> | how does the entire config look like? |

| 2021-02-20 09:27:02 | <mc47> | on another note, I think we should add RRScreenChangeNotifyEvent to the docksEventHook |
| 2021-02-20 09:27:50 | <mc47> | or something similar to react to changes in the screen config |
